in route from Singapore, to Frankfurt, to New York
I’m not exactly sure what day it is because we are crossing time zones so quickly. It has been nighttime the entire flight because we are traveling with the days instead of against them. It seems surreal to be heading home after this trip, and I think of this as we fly over Europe where so much of it is like it is at home.
I watched the first half of “Ratatouille” on the plane even though I am reluctant to return to the world of media and entertainment. Being outdoors and leading a simple life for two weeks was refreshing and a reminder of things we often forget about as we go through our lives. As we get closer to home, I also find myself listening to Jordin Sparks and listing in my head the things I need to do when I return to Bridgewater. I resist the urge to pull out post-it notes and begin making lists and this reminds me of the challenge ahead- to live more simply and at peace with myself and the world around me.
One of my favorite parts of flying is no matter what, it is always a clear and sunny day in the sky. It is always a pleasant surprise when taking off on a cloudy and dreary day, to suddenly break through the clouds to cheery sunshine. I think life is a lot like this- we often let ourselves dwell below the clouds, dreary in spirit. But God wants to pull us above those clouds, to fly above them in the sunshine. We need to simply let Him.
The sun rose while we were in Frankfurt and it has been light ever since. It is early morning at home, but we are getting closer. I feel like we’re bringing in the day=)
Some of our group were wary when they saw Kay, Katie, and I managed to sit together on the 24-hour flight from Singapore to New York and perhaps they had good reason. We decided we owed the group one more song in parting, and received several strange looks from our neighbors on the plane in rehearsing this piece.
(to the tune on "In the Jungle" from Lion King")
In the village, the Burmese village, we had a lot of fun,
We learned so much, so very much, to share with everyone.
This trip-i-i-ip it was so fabulous,
We made-a-a-ade, so many great new friends.
*a wim-a-way, a wim-a-way, a wim-a-way, a wim-a-way…..*
Is this airport, this New York airport, it’s time to say goodbye,
We love you dearly, we’ll miss you dearly, we will remember you.
Oh when-en-en-en, oh when we meet again,
We’ll smile-ile-ile-ile and laugh for quite awhile.
*a-way………*=)
